Identification

Identify your pump or gear online

Type the code stamped on the unit and we will break it down segment by segment, or search our medium and heavy duty part number tables. Still unsure? Call 714-572-3656 with your tag numbers.

Medium & heavy duty pump identification

Pumps are identified by five physical features. Take these measurements before ordering — the model number follows directly from them.

  1. 1 · Body size (measurement A)

Eaton U model: small rotor measures 1-7/8 in., large rotor 2-1/8 in. Eaton Hobourn BB: small rotor 2-1/4 in., large rotor 2-3/4 in.

  2. 2 · Inlet

No inlet, 5/8 in., or 3/4 in. — measured at the reservoir / manifold mount face.

  3. 3 · Pressure port

5/8 in. inverted flare, 3/4-16 O-ring, or 1/4 in. NPT.

  4. 4 · Shaft / drive

Single pulley 9/16 in. or double pulley 7/8 in.; on medium and heavy duty units record splined vs keyed and overall shaft length.

  5. 5 · Rotation

Viewed from the shaft end. R suffix = counterclockwise. Caterpillar engines and driver's-side Detroit installs are usually counterclockwise.

Heavy duty steering gear identification

Heavy duty gears are identified by series prefix plus build code. Read the whole string from the tag or housing — a single digit changes ports, shafts and axle rating.

TAS (TAS40, TAS55, TAS65, TAS85)

TRW / Ross

The number after TAS is the frame size — larger frame = higher front axle rating. The trailing digits are the assembly variation, and our X suffix marks a Steering Components remanufactured unit.

Typical applications: Freightliner, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Navistar, Ford conventional and cabover, front axle 6,000–22,000 lbs

Information needed

  • Full TAS number from the tag or housing casting
  • Front axle weight rating
  • Input shaft spline count and diameter
  • Pitman arm output shaft spline and taper

HFB / HF (HF64, HFB64, HFB70)

TRW / Ross

HF64 and HFB64 are 12,000 lb class; HFB70 covers 16,000 lbs and up. The four digits following the frame size are the build code — read them exactly, one digit changes the ports and shaft.

Typical applications: Ford LTL/LN, Mack R/MR/MH, Kenworth K100/K136, Freightliner conventional

Information needed

  • Complete HF / HFB build number
  • Number of hydraulic ports (2 port vs 4 port)
  • Output shaft length (4.00, 4.25, 4.50, 4.75, 5.50 in. on Mack R models)
  • Input shaft diameter (13/16 in. on early Ford LTL9000)

M100 / M110 (M100PDZ1X, M110PBQ1X …)

TRW

M100 is the standard heavy duty frame, M110 the high-capacity frame used from 16,000 lbs up. The three letters and digit after the frame are the OEM build code — transcribe the whole string.

Typical applications: Kenworth C500/T400/T800/W900, Mack CH600 SBA & SFA, Freightliner set-back and set-forward axle

Information needed

  • Full stamped code including the trailing digit
  • Master or slave position when used in a dual-gear setup
  • Set back axle (SBA) or set forward axle (SFA)

292 / 392 / 492 / 592 series

Sheppard

The first digit is the number of turns/valve generation, the suffix letters are the OEM variant (for example 392-SCB4X, 292-SEX6X). Sheppard slave gears in dual setups carry their own suffix — record both gears.

Typical applications: Kenworth C500/W900 conventional, Freightliner cabover, dual-gear vocational trucks

Information needed

  • Complete series and suffix from the housing tag
  • Master or slave position
  • Input shaft spline and pitman arm spline

ZF 8098 / 8090 servocom

ZF

ZF gears and pumps carry a seven-digit stamped number (for example 7673 955 321) on the housing or the tag. That number, not the truck model, is what identifies the unit.

Typical applications: Freightliner, Ford, Mack, Navistar, PACCAR, Volvo

Information needed

  • Seven-digit ZF number from the housing stamp or tag
  • Photograph of the tag if the stamp is worn
  • Input and output shaft details

Steering gear application finder

Pick your truck make and model to see the heavy duty gears we build for it — with casting number, line count, gear type and the OEM numbers they replace. You can also search straight by gear, casting or OEM number.

Pick a make or type a gear, casting or OEM number to see applications.

Applications are a guide only — confirm against the tag or casting on your unit, or call 714-572-3656 with the numbers and we will confirm the gear.

Seal, bearing & repair kits

Kit numbers for the gear and pump families we rebuild. Numbers marked “verify” come from aftermarket cross-references — call us and we will confirm the exact kit for your build before you order.

Online code decoder

Vickers V10 / V20

Vane pump model codes stamped on the pump body. Every position is decoded: cover, mounting, ports, ring capacity, shaft, pressure setting and rotation.

Try

Eaton Hobourn BB

BB model codes read left to right: body type and rotation, shaft type, orifice size, pressure setting, then port suffixes.

Try
  • Pumps mounted on Caterpillar engines are usually counterclockwise rotation.
  • Pumps mounted on the driver's side of Detroit engines are usually counterclockwise rotation.
