Warranty

Steering Components limited warranty

12 months or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first, from the date of original installation. RMA required before any return.

1. Limited Warranty

Steering Components warrants its steering gears and power steering pumps against defects in material or workmanship for twelve (12) months or one hundred thousand (100,000) miles, whichever occurs first, measured from the date of original installation. Steering Components’ sole obligation under this warranty is, at Steering Components’ option, to repair or replace any gear or pump that Steering Components determines to be defective in material or workmanship. Any repaired or replacement unit is warranted only for the remainder of the original warranty period.

2. Eligible Products

This warranty applies only to new or remanufactured steering gears and power steering pumps sold by Steering Components. Components purchased by Steering Components from another supplier and resold in unaltered form are covered only under that supplier’s warranty, if any, and not under this warranty.

3. Exclusions — What This Warranty Does Not Cover

This warranty does not apply, and Steering Components will have no obligation under it, if the unit has been:

  • subjected to operator negligence, misuse, abuse, neglect, racing, off-road, or off-highway use, or use outside the conditions or applications for which the unit was designed;
  • involved in an accident, collision, fire, theft, vandalism, flood, freezing, or other casualty event;
  • damaged by contamination, improper power steering fluid, lack of fluid, or failure to maintain proper fluid levels as specified by the vehicle manufacturer;
  • improperly installed, including without limitation installation on an application for which the unit was not designed, or installed without following the installation and bleeding instructions provided by Steering Components or the vehicle manufacturer;
  • altered, modified, disassembled, or repaired by anyone other than Steering Components;
  • damaged by the use of a non-OEM or incompatible component elsewhere in the steering system; or
  • damaged by a failed or contaminated hose, reservoir, cooler, or other part of the power steering system supplied or maintained by others.

Proof of proper installation and maintenance is the customer’s responsibility. A unit returned that has been disassembled, cut, welded, or otherwise modified will void this warranty.

4. Labor, Consequential, and Incidental Damages

This warranty does not cover labor of any kind, including without limitation removal, reinstallation, diagnostic time, bleeding, or wheel alignment, unless Steering Components has expressly authorized labor reimbursement in writing in advance. Steering Components shall not be liable for any incidental, consequential, special, punitive, or economic loss or damage, including without limitation loss of use, loss of time, loss of pay or income, vehicle rental, towing, storage, lodging, meals, travel expense, inconvenience, or damage to other property, whether or not foreseeable.

5. Return Material Authorization (RMA) Required

No unit may be returned under this warranty without a written Return Material Authorization (RMA) number issued in advance by Steering Components. The freight coverage and warranty remedies described in this policy apply only to units accompanied by a valid RMA number and shipped in accordance with Steering Components’ written instructions. Units shipped without an RMA number, or shipped using a carrier or service level not authorized by Steering Components, may be refused or returned to the sender at the sender’s expense.

6. Freight and Shipping

Where a warranty claim has been authorized by Steering Components in advance and, after inspection, Steering Components confirms the failure is covered by this warranty, Steering Components will pay reasonable ground freight to return the failed unit to Steering Components and to ship the repaired or replacement unit back to the customer, subject to the following conditions:

  • Coverage is limited to customers located in the contiguous forty-eight (48) United States;
  • Coverage is limited to standard ground service from a carrier designated by Steering Components. Expedited, express, next-day, two-day, air, international, hazardous, or oversized shipping is not covered;
  • Customers located outside the contiguous 48 states, including without limitation Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, other U.S. territories, Canada, Mexico, and all international destinations, are responsible for all freight charges, duties, taxes, brokerage fees, and customs fees, both inbound and outbound;
  • If, after inspection, the unit is determined not to be defective or not otherwise covered by this warranty, the customer is responsible for all inbound and outbound freight, and Steering Components may invoice the customer for such charges before releasing the unit;
  • Steering Components will not reimburse freight paid by the customer unless the customer used a carrier and service level authorized in writing by Steering Components at the time the RMA was issued.

7. Core Policy

All cores must be like-for-like. To qualify for full core credit, cores must be rebuildable, fully assembled, and complete. Cores with cracked or broken housings, bent or damaged shafts, non-turnable shafts, or damaged threads at the pitman arm splines will be subject to partial credit or no credit at Steering Components’ sole discretion. Cores of non-OEM or unbuildable construction may receive no credit. All gears and pumps must be returned within one hundred eighty (180) days of purchase unless otherwise authorized in writing by Steering Components.

8. Transfer of Ownership

This warranty is extended only to the original purchaser of the unit from Steering Components or an authorized Steering Components distributor, for the vehicle on which the unit was originally installed. A change in vehicle ownership terminates this warranty.

9. Limitation of Remedies; Disclaimer of Other Warranties

The remedies set forth in this warranty are the customer’s exclusive remedies and Steering Components’ sole obligation arising out of or in connection with the unit or any breach of warranty. TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, STEERING COMPONENTS DISCLAIMS ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WITHOUT LIMITATION THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. STEERING COMPONENTS EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL AND CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES. No employee, distributor, agent, or representative of Steering Components has authority to modify this warranty, and any modification must be in writing and signed by an authorized officer of Steering Components.
